Joshua Litton began his musical journey at the age of two with the Violin. He spent his early musical life in the classical world studying with numerous prestigious teachers including Maestro Pablo Diemecke, Michael Gurevich and Suzanne Young. Joshua’s musical career began in earnest when he was accepted in to the prestigious Chethams School of Music in Manchester, England. After studying for a year at Chethams Joshua returned to Canada and began to focus on classical viola and folk music.
Fast forward to today and Joshua has performed with numerous groups including Coastline, nominees for two Canadian Folk Music Awards, Best Young Performers and Best Instrumental Group, and were representatives of Canada at the 2015 Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
Joshua studies classical viola with Kenji Fuse. He received awards for “Best Piece by 20th/21st Century Composer” in the Greater Victoria Preforming Arts festival as well as The Intermediate viola award 2 years in a row. Joshua performs with The Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra as principal viola, The DeMahler Chamber Ensemble and The Neptune Piano Quartet. Summer 2016 Joshua attended the VSO Institute at Whistler, the Theatre Sound Design Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and the summer campus at RDAM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music). In 2017 he attended the Berklee Global String Intensive in Boston MA.
In 2017 Joshua teamed up with three other young Victoria musicians to form The Getaway Band, an Indie Roots ensemble. Performing primarily original work in and around Victoria BC. In addition Joshua regularly performs at events and private functions with his collaborative studio project River and Trees focusing on folk, blues, contemporary and classical arrangements for Violin, Viola, Guitar, Voice, Keyboard, and Percussion.
Joshua enjoys playing a wide range of instruments and has set himself the challenge of playing the full alphabet (A-Z). Currently he performs on the Accordion, Banjo, Bass Guitar, Bodhrán, Concertina, Cornet, Djembe, Electric Guitar, French Horn, Guitar, Keyboards, Mandolin, Piano, Trumpet, Ukulele, Viola, Violin, and Voice.
